Belly Dance is a therapeutic art form for the mind, body, and soul. Practicing it can lead to a greater range of motion, better posture, and a higher sense of self esteem and empowerment especially for females.
Classes are structured to provide proper dance technique and a good workout. Bring a scarf to tie around your hips and wear comfortable workout clothes, belly baring optional.
Dance Background:
Lori was borderline tomboy when she began dancing in color guard in high school. She had always considered herself one of those people who 'can't dance'. But with practice, patience, and dedication the skills arrived and dance made a place in Lori's heart. Later, Lori discovered Belly Dance after the birth of her first child, thinking the 'belly' part would help her get back in shape after the baby. After wearing out several videos the craving to learn more lead to seeking out live classes. Eventually she found weekly classes at Kira's Oasis in Centerville Ohio, along with various workshops in other cities and neighboring states.
Today Lori has 9 years of Belly Dance experience and her studies have taken her to Egypt, Jamaica, and Costa Rica. She has over 250 workshop hours with top instructors around the world. Her style is flavored by her two favorite dancers, Aziza of Montreal and Rachel Brice, whom she has studied with intensely. Her specialties include veil and floor work and she is focusing her current studies on zill work (finger cymbals), and other props such as fan veils, sword balancing, and fire staff.
